The main cultural draw for visitors is the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, and there are acres of beautiful green areas within the city such as Belmont Park, Northernhay Gardens and the Rougemont Gardens, but for the less culture-vulturally inclined, in search of family thrills ‘n’ spills, the Crealy Great Adventure Park on the outskirts of Exeter is a whirlwind of roller coasters and rides.
In fact Exeter’s location near the south coast makes it a great launch pad for a whole variety of different day excursions, including world-class walking trails such as the South West Coast Path and the famous Dartmoor National Park. there’s also a selection of fantastic beaches along the Jurassic Coast.
Exeter really is a magical place, but if we hesitate to use the word spellbinding, it’s only because prison in Exeter was also the final home of Alice Molland. Poor Alice was the last person executed in England for being a witch. Mind you, they haven’t done that to anyone since 1685. Just leave your broomstick at home, to be doubly sure.
